SIMONE DAWOOD

Olivers Castle Karen Jones low res web -

Dawood's work observes the Wiltshire landscape. Her abstract use of colour captures the ever-changing seasons, innovating and illuminating the natural landscape.

Dawood's work is a response to the landscape that surrounds me near The Ridgeway.

Being a Londoner at heart, her objective perspective on the Wiltshire landscapes translates in her fresh, unique landscapes.

What has your art practice meant to you over the last year?

"Through the last year it was difficult to get out into the landscape and as we were all confined I took time to build on another parallel project that I have been developing over the last couple of years.

I worked as a volunteer at Swindon Museum and Art Gallery. Thinking I would find old flints, axeheads, jewellery and kitchen tools a bit boring, I was thrilled to find that this was not the case - I loved them and I loved handling and thinking about their history and the stories they could tell.
This led to a new seam of work and ideas which seeks to put these ancient objects back into the landscape from which they came.

Now that we can wander more widely and freely I hope to spend more time amongst the Long Barrows, Neolithic chalk paths and Hillforts thinking about those that travelled, lived and worked this land."

Simone has shared the not profit organisation, Artists Support Pledge on Instagram. It is a hashtag founded by @matthewburrowsstudios to help artists during the pandemic.

Simone will be exhibiting over the course of four weekends in July at the Marlborough Open Studios www.marlboroughopenstudios.co.uk
